This is a simple juice recipe requiring only a handful of basic ingredients, but don’t be fooled this juice is a powerhouse, full of benefits. Formulated to help stimulate digestion this can be a great way to kick start your digestive system in the morning, although can be enjoyed as a refreshing drink at anytime of the day.

Each ingredient contains many properties to help stimulate digestion and break down the food you eat:

  • Pineapple contains enzymes, bromelain which aids in the break down and digestion of protein. Bromelain is also anti-inflammatory so can assist in reducing inflammation in the digestive tract.

  • Celery juice is another great anti-inflammatory and can assist digestive function. Celery is anti-oxidant rich and contains lots of beneficial nutrients for heart health, bone health and detoxification.

  • Ginger stimulates digestion and can assist in weight loss. Due to the stimulatory effect it has on lipase, an enzyme produced in the pancreas that aids in the metabolism of fat.

  • Lemon also helps to stimulate stomach acid which promotes the digestion of the food we eat.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pineapple

  • 1 lemon

  • 4 sticks celery (including green tops)

  • 1 large thumb ginger

Directions:

Step 1 

Wash all the ingredients.

Step 2 

Cut the peel off the pineapple and lemon. Chop into pieces small enough to fit down the chute of your juicer. Cut celery into manageable lengths. Trim and chop ginger.

Step 3 

Piece by piece, feed all the ingredients into a cold press juicer. Using a tamper to push them down.

Step 4

Enjoy chilled or over ice.
